Pantree Owl are one of the most inventive and arresting bands in Bloomington, so don’t miss this show! The band members are students at the prestigious Jacobs school of music at Indiana University, and their songs are influenced by classical minimalists (Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Arvo Part), exceptional modern-classical performance ensembles (Kronos Quartet, Alarm Will Sound), and modern electronic artists (Aphex Twin, Cocorosie, Alva Noto, The Books, Bjork). You can download their recently-released EP at http://www.soundcloud.com/pantreeowl
VICTOIRE
http://www.myspace.com/victoiremusic
Brooklyn’s Victoire is a new chamber-rock ensemble founded by composer/pianist Missy Mazzoli. This group, a stirring blend of winds, strings, keyboards and lo-fi electronics, was recently dubbed “an all-star, all-female quintet” by Time Out New York. Pitchfork media describes Victoire as “so good… a pleasingly accessible entrée into the world of pseudo-classical music.” Victoire performs Mazzoli’s distinct blend of dreamy post rock, quirky minimalism and rich romanticism. Since forming in 2008 they have shared the stage with Tortoise and other legendary bands, and have performed at many of New York’s top new-music venues including The Bang on a Can Marathon, Galapagos, the Tank, The Stone and the Whitney Museum.
